Elounda is a fishing village in the prefecture of Lasithi, on the north coast of the island of Crete, which is part of Agios Nikolaos. It is a seaside and popular tourist destination. Elounda is mainly visited by VIP customers for its seaside, luxurious resorts. Opposite to Elounda there is a very small island called Spinalonga, which is bounded north by the Gulf of Elounda. The road to Elounda from Agios Nikolaos is approximately 12 km in length by following the coast, as it goes to the top of a small mountain.
The small village of Plaka, overlooking the island of Spinalonga is just 5 km from the main square of Elounda heading north away from Agios Nikolaos.
