Georgioupoli is located on the border between the perfecture of Rethymno in the east and the perfecture of Chania in the west. However, it belongs to the second one. The area around Georgioupoli is Apokoronas with picturesque villages and much green. The river Almyros flows into Georgioupoli, while before it forms a small lake that hosts many birds and animals. The lake is seen from the highway as you approach Georgioupoli from Chania.
Entering the village you will see many eucalyptuses, both on the street and the square, and a series of cypress trees that create a beautiful picture.
The beach of Georgioupoli extends 2km east of the river Almyros, to the beach of Kavros, which is a natural continuation of the first. Like the 10km coastal front, the beach is sandy, with large sand dunes and shallow water. It is very well organized, with a lifeguard and it is ideal for children.
