Gerani is a village where the famous Cave of Gerani is found. It is located 7. 5 km from Rethymno and just a short distance from the new highway Rethymnon- Chania, at an altitude of 90 meters. It took its name from the gerani (type of water pump), from which residents drew water from the well which only existed in the village. At Gerani cave, with the magnificent stalagmites and 6 halls, the archaeological research brought to light three human skeletons as well as a variety of bone and stone tools of the Neolithic era.
The beach of Gerani is located about 6km west of Rethymnon, near the village and the gorge of Vederon. Next goes the highway from Chania to Rethymno, over the bridge of Gerani. It is a relatively small beach with pebbles and rocks in several places preferred by spear gunners.
