Kolympari is located 24 km West of Chania, just off the road to Kastelli, in the homonym gulf. It is a small picturesque seaside village with 950 residents. Because it is a relatively safe port, it was used for disembarking troops at various times in the modern history of the island.
The nearby villages are quite interesting, for their environment, the Byzantine churches some dating from the 6th century, the Archangel Michael church near the village of Episkopi, the Venetian ruins, as in Rhodopos about 7 km northeast. Seven kilometers southern you can see the village Nochia, which holds a tradition in pottery.
