Makris Yialos is a widely known beach resort in southeastern Crete, in the municipality of Lasithi. It’s also known as “Makriyialos”, but in recent years, the local community has been trying to establish the name “Makris Yialos”, because Makriyalos in Crete is often confused with another one in northern Greece. If someone takes the road that runs through the village of Makri Yialos connecting Ierapetra and Sitia they may not be impressed. It might be considered that it’s just another common village, in which people have no reason to stop. However, if you drive a little further eastwards, the view towards the bay of Makris Yialos is unique and reveals the beauty and charm of the settlement, with its small harbor and long beach.
The name Makris Yialos reveals its main advantage, a large bay with a beautiful sandy beach stretching more than one kilometer.
