The old town of Rethymno is one of the best preserved Renaissance cities. Rethymnon is located in the heart of modern Rethymnon, it combines the oriental aspect of Ottoman and Venetian Renaissance-style architecture. In contrast to Heraklion and Chania, the Greek character dominates in Rethymnon, as most nobles were Greeks, called “Archontoromaioi”.
We start from the Venetian port of Rethymno with the fishing boats, the famous lighthouse and the many taverns. The Venetian harbor is ideal to begin our walk in the old town of Rethymnon. Also, it is very close to the Venetian castle Fortezza.
